Sony saw revenue and revenue growth in fiscal year 2017, and the company’s biggest financial performance was the PlayStation 4. Although console sales dropped in comparison to 2016, the current market leader delivered a positive result for Sony’s business.
During fiscal year 2017, which went from April last year to the end of March 2018, Sony had $ 78.1 billion in revenue, with a profit of $ 6.7 billion. Earnings rose sharply compared to the previous year, when they stood at $ 2.6 billion, according to Engadget.
In the period, Sony sold 19 million PS4 units. By 2016, the company had sold 20 million consoles. Despite the slump in hardware marketing, the games division secured $ 1.6 billion in profit for the Japanese manufacturer, being the company’s most profitable sector.
Compared to other divisions of Sony, the area responsible for home entertainment and sound recorded a profit of $ 784 million. The smartphone division continues with a negative result: Sony’s mobile area reported $ 253 million in losses during fiscal year 2017.
For 2018, Sony’s forecast is to continue to make profits, albeit less in 2017. The company predicts revenue of $ 76 billion in the period, with a profit of $ 6.1 billion.
